Donations - Raffles and Fundraising

Our service to you is free and we do not expect any payment. However, if at some time you feel you are able to help us, we would be most grateful. To give you some idea of how much it costs to run our service:

  • To deal with an average enquiry costs us £8.87; in the year ending 31st March 2009 the bureau in North Walsham and the surrounding area dealt with 16,553
  • To run the service cost us £12.44 per advice hour in 2007/8 and we provided 11,800 hours of advice.
  • The costs of our general advice service would be more than three times as much if it were not for the time given freely by our staff

The value to the Bureau and the local Community of the work of our voluntary staff, based on the minimum equivalent pay scales and the value of gifts in kind must also be considered:

Financial Equivalent of Voluntary Adviser Time

9,231 hours per year (@ £14.19 p/hr) = £130,988

Financial Equivalent of Voluntary Clerical and Ancillary worker time

612 hours per year (@ £9.49 p/hr) = £5,807

Financial Equivalent of Voluntary Board members' time

2,040 hours per year (@ £20.68 p/hr) = £42,187

Citizens Advice North Norfolk receives grants from Norfolk County Council and North Norfolk District Council to maintain our core services. North Walsham, Fakenham, Wells, Cromer, Sheringham, Stalham and Aylsham town councils also contribute to our core funds, as do many of the parish councils in the area. We are very grateful to all these funders who continue to support our core service through annual grants.

We have also received grants from the Big Lottery Fund which funds our 'Reaching Out' project providing advice sessions in some of the towns and villages in the area around North Walsham including Stalham and Sheringham, evening and weekend advice sessions by telephone and by appointment in North Walsham and access to a specialist debt adviser for those in need of this level of advice; Aylsham Agricultural Show Association; Worstead Village Festival Charity; North Walsham Lions; Inner Wheel and other local organisations.

Grants and Donations - Fashion Shows.

We also have members of Citizens Advice North Norfolk who work tirelessly to promote the bureau in the community and to fundraise for the further development of the bureau. They organise fundraising events (including fashion shows!) throughout the year, arrange street collections, provide volunteers to staff gates and have fundraising stands at local events amongst other things!

You can find out more about our funding from our annual report. Please email the CEO, Fiona Hunter, at ceo@cann.cabnet.org.uk if you would like a copy sent to you either by post or by email.

As a charity the bureau relies on grants and donations to maintain our core activity and implement new projects. While all the funders already mentioned fund the majority of the core of our work, we usually have an annual shortfall and we have new projects that also require funding.

How you can help us

  • To enable the bureau to deliver the kind of modern service needed today we need help in purchasing IT equipment and training bureaux staff to use it
  • We always need money for equipment in general or for our premises, for example, to improve access for people with disabilities.
  • Sponsorship money for items such as leaflets, posters and our annual report could help improve the promotion of our services to the local community.
  • Make us the Charity of the Year at your company. Donations from raffles or contests, no matter how big or small, are always welcome.
  • If you are a company do you have staff that you could second or encourage to volunteer some time to provide mentoring skills to the bureau?
